This week Year 3 had an amazing day out at Vindolanda, a fascinating place full of Roman history! First, they visited the ancient Roman ruins, where they met an archaeologist who was busy excavating with his team. They had just discovered some beautiful pottery from Roman times, and he showed the children how they carefully worked to uncover the past.
After that, they explored the Roman fort and learned about the buildings where Roman soldiers used to live. It was incredible to see how they had constructed their homes so long ago! Next, they headed to the Roman Army Museum, where they had an interactive lesson. The guide taught them about the history of the Romans and even introduced them to some Latin words!
In the museum, the group had the chance to try shooting an arrow, just like the soldiers did, and they also looked at the heavy armour they wore to protect themselves. It was so much fun to experience a bit of life as a Roman soldier. It was a great day out, and the children learned so much about our fascinating history.
