Last week, Browney Academy celebrated National Braille Week, which aims to raise awareness of the importance of braille and other alternative formats that open up the written word to people with visual impairments.

Mrs Harris kicked off the week with a whole-school assembly to celebrate and promote the week ahead before teaching our children lots of facts about Louis Braille, the French educator and inventor of braille.

Throughout the week, each class took part in different braille activities including looking at how symbols are formed, the alphabet, code cracking tasks and message writing.

With the help of our braille expert, Olivia, our children finished the week off by creating braille signs to display around school.
