All week we have celebrated braille across Browney Academy. Braille is a tactile reading and writing system which opens up the written word to people with visual impairments.
Mrs Harris and Olivia started the week with a special assembly where Olivia told us all about what braille means to her and how it helps her learn.
Activities took place in every class where pupils learnt about the life of Louie Braille ( the inventor of Braille) and talked about the history of braille and how it’s key to literacy for thousands of visually impaired people around the world. Each year group explored the braille code through worksheets and online games.
Olivia spent time in each class where she gave us a masterclass in braille reading and writing. Thank you, Olivia, we enjoyed learning how you access the written word!
