Last week, our visual impairment specialist teacher Mrs Newman came into school to lead a session about visual impairment (VI) awareness.
The children took part in a range of activities that helped them understand what it's like to have a VI disability including: wearing a range of glasses that imitate different types of vision issues, using touch to identify a range of common objects whilst wearing blindfolds, wearing blindfolds outside and trying to navigate an obstacle course safely and find their friends in the playground.
Mrs Newman also showed the children how VI people can read using braille and they each had a chance to read some braille and write their names in braille.
The workshop aimed to help the class be more aware of Olivia's limited vision and see how things can sometimes be more challenging for her so that they can think of ways they can help.
Well done everyone.
