The Rotary Club in Durham recently donated a special ‘Grow Your Own Crocus’ pack to Browney Academy to raise awareness of polio.

The class had a great time planting the bulbs and in the process, the whole school learnt about polio, an infectious disease that mainly effects young children.

The event made us realise how lucky we are to live in a country where the disease is no longer an issue. Yet in the developing world, there is still more to do - we are supporting the cause by selling crocus pins in school for a £1 donation.

Deputy Headteacher, Mrs Ribchester said "Many thanks to the Rotary Club of Durham for this very generous gift. It's an excellent way for the children to learn about polio and the programme which is underway worldwide to eradicate the disease, and we look forward to learning more about the topic as we begin to watch the crocus bulbs blossom in coming months."

Student, Kali said “We had a great time planting crocus bulbs in the pots and know how terrible a disease polio is”.
