As part of our Science topic, Animals Including Humans, Year 2 enjoyed an exciting and educational trip to the farm. The visit gave the children a wonderful opportunity to learn about animals and their offspring first-hand.
During the day, the children observed a range of farm animals and learned how different animals care for their young. They were taught that mammal offspring grow inside the female, where they develop and thrive before birth, while birds lay eggs on land. The children were fascinated to discover that many baby animals have different names from their adults. They learned, that a baby peacock is called a peachick, a baby chicken is a chick, a baby sheep is a lamb, and a baby donkey is a foal. There were so many different animals and offspring for the children to explore and learn about!
The visit also helped the children understand that animals, like humans, have life cycles and change as they grow from babies into fully grown adults. The hands-on experiences made this learning particularly memorable. The children loved handling the chicks and guinea pigs, feeding the sheep and goats, and enjoying a tractor ride around the farm.
It was a fantastic day filled with learning, discovery and fun, helping to bring our science topic to life in a meaningful and memorable way!
