Yesterday we celebrated as Guide Dogs UK turned 90! Everyone here at Browney Academy had a great time hosting a fundraiser to sponsor our very own guide dog puppy named Pudding! In October 1931, the first four fully-trained guide dogs changed four lives for the better. Since then, the charity has been there for people with sight loss and those around them.
Throughout the morning the whole school took part in fun activities and lessons, learning the history of guide dogs and what a guide dog does.
In the afternoon we had a very special visit from Elaine who has worked with Guide Dogs UK for 15 years and has cared for 13 puppies. She was joined by Alan and his guide dog, Francis. They visited every class where the children had prepared questions to find out how Francis helped Alan. Alan commented on how well-behaved and calm all the children were around Francis and how they made him feel very welcome in our school.
After the visit, Mrs Harris and Olivia held a very special assembly. The children were asked to vote from a choice of three puppies. Once the votes were cast, Olivia was extremely honoured to announce, that with a unanimous decision, that we are now the proud sponsors of Pudding! We can't wait to receive information about Pudding’s journey. We will be updated on her progress with 'pupdates' every few months and look forward to sharing these with everyone.
Thank you to everyone who donated to this wonderful fundraiser!
