Before the half-term break, our Reception class enjoyed learning all about the Chinese New Year. Our role play area was transformed into a wonderful Chinese restaurant where the group wrote down Chinese food orders for their friends.

To continue their learning, the class took a trip to the Oriental Museum in Durham where they dressed up and acted out the story of the Chinese Zodiac. Our children also learned about shadow puppets and had the chance to create their own to use in a fantastic puppet performance!

After all the excitement, The Red Lantern in Chester-le-Street kindly cooked up a Chinese banquet including prawn toast, spring rolls, sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, chow mein and prawn crackers, which went down a treat with the children!

After returning to the classroom, Reception located China on a map and studied the Chinese flag. The children then invited their families into the classroom and performed an assembly for them, showing off all their new knowledge. The group worked together as a team to perform a dragon dance while playing musical instruments to create their own dance music.
