Women’s Olympic Champion rugby player visits Browney

We've had an exciting day today thanks to a visit from Katy McLean - a Women’s Olympic champion rugby player.

After introducing herself in assembly and showing us her gold and silver medals and caps, Katy ran workshops with each class, focusing on passing and catching.

At 32 years old, Katy has played 107 matches for England. She was only five when she started playing rugby and 22 when she was picked for England.

Our gifted and talented PE group managed to pin her down to ask her some questions. Here's what they found out...

What do you and your team do to lift yourselves up if you have lost a game?

We lift each other by doing things together away from rugby. Rugby is a team sport and you get a really good mix of people.

Who are your heroes?

One is my mum. My mum was amazing at looking after me and my sister. We both had lots of clubs to go to when we were younger and she used to take us to them all. She is definitely one of my heroes. My other hero is Johnny Wilkinson.

Thank you Katy - we have had a great day!

If you want to do something and you try your best and don’t give up you will succeed.
