Earlier this week, Year 1 visited a Hindu temple in Newcastle. When they arrived the children removed their shoes to show respect to the Hindu gods.

Our pupils met with a Hindu priest who told them about the special colourful statues, known as 'murtis'. The priest told the group about the Diwali story and how Rama rescued Site from a ten-headed demon with the help of Hanuman the monkey god.

The children also had the opportunity to participate in a Hindu prayer. Before the prayer started the priest rang a very loud bell and explained that it was to wake up the gods and signal that it was time to pray.

The children had a great time land found learning about the religion fascinating.
