Year 1 and 2 visit Lumley Castle

Years 1 and 2 were extremely excited to visit a real castle last week after studying the exciting topic 'towers, tunnels and turrets' this term.

The children had the opportunity to apply and extend their knowledge about castles by touring Lumley castle inside and out, searching for the features of castles they have learned about in school. Mr Farrow was knighted during a special ceremony, but poor Mrs Martindale was put in the stocks and attacked by rotten vegetables!

Before leaving, the children dined in the Great Hall and enjoyed hearing the story of the castle's past residents - Lord and Lady Lumley (acted out by the staff!).

And the fun is not over yet, as children have been invited to a special medieval celebration in school on the last day of term where they will enjoy medieval music, dance, games and crafts, as well as a royal banquet, with special entertainment from the jester! Watch this space for photos.
