Swifts were lucky enough to visit the Nissan car plant in Sunderland last week for a great day finding out about engineering and car making. The visit was part of the company's ‘schools engineering discovery event’ which aims to explain how the manufacturing industry works and what type of jobs pupils may be able to work towards in their future.

The pupils learned how Nissan cars are manufactured from start to finish and found out that Nissan produce thousands of cars over the course of a week which are shipped all around the world. Swifts also compared the electric Leaf car to the fuel cars and found that they are much cheaper and much better for the environment.

Swifts listened to a presentation about Nissan cars, played games to show how a car is made, completed group challenges and were treated to a tour of Nissan, even getting to see the Leaf and Qashqai being built! Frank, our tour guide, was brilliant.

Arryn said: “I thought that working at Nissan looked like fun and it has inspired me to become an engineer in the future”.

Mrs Fildes added: “This was a fantastic experience for our pupils and a very rare opportunity. The children are now excited and enthusiastic about the possibility of a future in engineering and are looking forward to taking part in further projects with Nissan."

It is safe to say that everyone had a wonderful day and learned lots. Swifts would like to say a huge thank you to Nissan for having them!
