Browney Academy, will soon undergo a big transformation thanks to £150k worth of school improvement funds from the Department for Education.

The money will be spent on range of improvements including a new outdoor play area and a new heating system. There will also be visual improvements made to our interior with new displays, signage and graphics adding to our makeover. We are also planning to build a brand new school entrance and reception, and make improvements to our roof which is subject to further funding.

A large part of the funding is to support the installation of a much-needed new heating system, for which a bid was submitted to the Department for Education, with the full amount being granted last week.

Our Headteacher Ros Parker said:

“The extra funding will make a huge difference to our school meaning we can make the improvements needed to secure the building for years to come. In particular, the installation of a new efficient heating system will reduce our outgoings and free up extra money to invest in new school resources to further enhance the children’s education.”

Lesley Powell, Executive Principal at Shotton Hall Learning Trust who is now responsible for Browney Academy added:

“This is a much needed windfall for the school, every penny of which will be used to make the historic building fit for the demands of a modern, vibrant primary school. We are already seeing rapid improvements in the progress of pupils at the school, and enhanced surroundings can only help to develop this performance further.”

Work on the academy interior has already begun, with building work for the outdoor play area and installation of the new heating system due to begin in the summer subject to the relevant permissions.
